Bringing together a group of accomplished western artists and helping to return a grand building to its former glory is the mission of the Gallery at the Windsor's creators. The town of Del Norte was a booming mining and ranching center in the last quarter of the 1800's and on the short list for the capital of Colorado when Denver got the final nod. Nevertheless, the town prospered until the early 1970's when the Windsor Hotel with the town on its heels declined. The hotel went into major disrepair until a wrecking ball was literally waiting at the curb in 1993. A local doctor and his wife saved the day by quickly buying the building and deeding it to a non-profit community corporation with a mission to restore it to its former beauty. The Windsor led Del Norte into prosperity in 1874 and 136 years later will do so again.
The Gallery at the Windsor is so proud to be a part of the restoration of the hotel and to represent some of the Rocky Mountain West's finest western artists.
